Xperiocity Onboarding Solution

Business Challenge

Wolverine WorldWide is a global marketer of branded footwear, apparel and accessories whose products can be found in more than 200 countries and territories. As WWW has a distributed workforce and no single Learning Management System (LMS) for learning delivery, learning was delivered through an enterprise portal with email communication managed via email. This was becoming increasingly cumbersome and prone to error as the number of employees and brands grew. The company was experiencing fast growth through acquisition and product licensing, and they realized they needed a better way to onboard new hires and introduce them to their growing portfolio of brands.

 

Goals

Media 1 consulted with WWW to refine the following solution goals:

  • Decrease reliance on email communications, which were cumbersome to manage and easily missed
  • Establish a consistent onboarding process and approach for all new hires
  • Support WWW culture through learning eXperiences that reflected the individualistic, rugged nature of the brand portfolio
  • Ensure that all new hires felt welcome and had what they needed to succeed, regardless of their manager
  • Provide targeted learning eXperiences tailored to the individual new hire role
  • Deliver an innovative onboarding solution that would excite new hires and be easy for managers to use; ensure user adoption

 

Media 1 Solution

After our initial consultation, Media 1 recognized an ideal fit for our Xperiocity learning methodology and technology, leveraging existing WWW SharePoint infrastructure. We worked with a cross-functional team within WWW to co-creating a vision for the new onboarding SmartPortal, then assisted them in repurposing existing learning objectives and assets as a creative mix of new Xperiocity learning Xperiences.  We provided coaching on competency mapping and worksheets for WWW use in completing the mapping in-house, then assisted the team in matching learning experiences to the appropriate competencies and roles. Once all the discovery and design was complete, Media 1 developed a custom WWW Xperiocity onboarding portal meeting all identified business goals.

Results

WWW quickly embraced the Xperiocity methodology, and continued to grow and personalize targeted onboarding Xperiences to support strategic objectives and build brand ambassadors. For the first time, the organization has a consistent approach to onboarding across global business units. Additionally, they found that the built-in automated email prompts worked to ensure that busy managers spent time with direct reports at the appropriate times during the onboarding journey, and additional prompts were added as they used the program. Plans are in the works to expand the Xperiocity model within WWW beyond onboarding and into Sales and Leadership development. They had no plan to purchase a traditional Learning Management System (LMS).
